Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

I have wanted a spiral perm for awhile now. My hair is straight and I cannot do anything with it. It is just long and boring - my hair is a couple inches past my shoulders. I don't know what I should do - get the spiral perm, which is like 75 dollars or more, or just get a hair cut of two inches or three and put in layers. I want something exciting and would like my hair to look thicker. What do you all think I should go for? I am very indecisive when it comes to my hair so I would love to hear your suggestions.

I have the same problem!

My hair is very straight and right past my shoulders. I would do anything for a little lift or body!! Anyways, I would not recommend perming your hair. I have a friend who tried it recently, and the curls came out small and 80s ish, which is normal for any perm (even if they tell you that it wont happen!).

Instead of a perm, I would highly recommend getting layers. Nothing is better for summer then a fresh haircut with bouncy layers. Tell your stylist that you prefer choppier layers (so that they dont end up in a straight line), and to take a couple inches off your length. When styling your hair, add a bit of volumizing moouse or texurizing product before blow drying. Blow dry your hair upside down to get major volume and afterwards spritz with a volumizing spray to keep your style in place.

Also, with a hair cut with layers, you have greater versatility. instead of your hair being constantly curly (and damaged from the perm), you can switch from straight hair to curly each day! Have you ever tried scrunching your hair? If you are looking for a softer curl/wave, use volumizing moose, and blow dry your hair with a diffuser hair dryer.

You can find all of these products at Walmart, Target, and your local grocery store, and they are not expensive.

Good luck with everything!

Cut with layers, definitely

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

The spiral perm sounds good to me!

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

My hair is kinda llike that too and I have both, a perm and cut in layers and I am happy with the results.

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

cut with blunt layers... do not go with the perm unless your over 55...

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

Get the hair cut %26amp; layers! it looks great and it cheap.! =] Also if your still sick of staight just try getting a partial perm. There cheap and work good for boring hair! Get just some basic curls tho... spirals are tooo much!

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

You should get the it cut into layers and if you dont like it do the curls. Win Win situation

It depends on ur face shape... If its roundish or an oval type shape, I'd go for the perm. Otherwise, mayb a layered haircut. If u want ur hair to look thicker, u should have the perm cuz layers mkes ur hair seem thinner n finer.

The hairstylist u go to must b good cuz when I went to get a perm it cost like, idk, $150! N don't listen to ppl who think perms r only fit 4 ppl above 50, they r CRAZY! Hello, it looks gorgeous on nearly everyone! But don't go 2 curly, try only the more bottom parts of ur hair. And only get it if u have either side bangs, or long hair. Also, try SOFTER curls. Does that make sense? I ment lyk, Vannessa Anne Hudgens or something. Or mayb bring them a pic of this Japanese star called Yuri Ebihara. Perms DO NOT ruin ur hair, cuz I told my stylist to do it not so strongly. SO it lasted for mayb, 3 years or so. If u DO want it for a long time, make it strong, but also b more careful w/ ur hair.

With a perm, if you change your mind or if it doesn't come out how you wanted it to you'll have to wait for all of the perm (PERMANENT) to grow out and theres not much you can do to correct it or change it. However, layered hair is way easier to work with if the end results aren't what you expected. How about trying the layers and then the perm if you dint like it.

Perms- can look lovely but 1. they do damage your hair to some degree 2. you can't undo it without chemically straigtening it.

A perm is a big commitment just like dying your hair is.

A good hair cut can give you style and volume and doesn't require a lot of maintanance. I would go with the cur personally.

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

I would go with the spiral perm first. This way you don't loose length, although the perm will draw it up some. And if it's something you've always wanted, go for it. Then if you don't like it, you will know not to do it again, and then you can get your hair cut in layers when the perm wears off.

hair cut with layers

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

layers

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

Definetly get the cut with layers... i used to want a perm but i saw how bad it ruined my friends hair so definetly don't get a perm because they only damage your hair, plus when your hair starts to grow out you have straight hair on top and you have to get another perm.

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

the perm will help it to look fuller but it may look frizzy to you ll need proda to keep the perm looking good ,that's more $ ,a layered cut and proda scrunching the hair give the effect of fuller head of hair ,good luck ...

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

if you want a perm, be sure you want it! I got a perm once and HATED it! I recently just got my hair ALL cut off and layered! LOVE IT!

Go in somewhere and say, Cut, Color, Highlight me and do whatever! I've found I got the best results when I let them do what they want rather than trying to meet a picture or what I describe. for cut, color, highlight I just paid $90

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

I would go for the new cut. Perms fry your hair. Good luck!

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

I perfer layers myself. The spiral perm, in my opinion, does not look natural. If you have really straight hair, the perm is not going to hold for very long. My sister got one a couple of years ago and it lasted for two days because her hair has no wave to it to hold it in. Good luck!

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

Perms are a bit outdated, and most people that I have talked to regret their perms a few months after they got one. Perms are damaging to your hair, and must be grown out if undesired. A layered cut is much more modern and versatile. If you crave body and texture, try getting a body wave and using some hot rollers for waves.

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

I THINK YOU ARE BETTER OFF WITH THAT PERM ...... FOR ONE IF YOU CANT DO ANYTHING WITH YOUR HAIR AND ITS LIMP THEN GET IT DONE ................. USING HOT ROLLERS EVERY SINGLE DAY WILL BE ALOT WORSE THEN JUST PERMING IT ONCE IN EVERY 3 - 6 MONTHES AND YOU COULD ALWAYS GET A LAYERD CUT BUT IF I WHERE YOU I WOULD STICK WITH LONG LAYERS ALONG WITH THE PERM SO YOU WONT CUT SO MUCH OFF YOUR HAIR BECAUSE WHEN YOU PERM YOUR HAIR IT WILL APPEAR SHORTER

Your Opinion: Spiral Perm or Hair Cut with layers?

I used to work at a salon, and I think if you really want to spiral your hair, go for it! But if your hair is very thin, it could damage your hair pretty bad. Have you ever just tried to use a curling iron? The heat from the curling iron could damage your hair, but not as much as the chemicals in the perm mixture could. If you decide to get a haircut instead, consider the shape of your face, it matters when getting a haircut too. You want something that can compliment you, not making your face look too fat or too thin. For example: If you have a short neck, consider a cut that will give your neck the illusion that it's long. Haircuts are a great way of re-inventing yourself. Just make sure you get the right person, with a good reputation, and very good artistic and visual perceptions of hairstyles. Otherwise, you'll end up wtih someone that is going to give you a cut that you won't like or a cut that won't compliment.

P.S. Think about what kind of styles you'd like, and take copies of those pictures with you to the salon, they might agree, or have some real good alternatives for you. Also take into consideration, what kind of clothing style or music style infuences you the most, it's the best way to look good, and represent something you're influenced by!
